How it’s calculated
This is a rough rule of thumb, not a quote from any insurer.
- Base premium = 1.5% of the cover amount.
- Age factor: up to 25 ×0.8, 26–35 ×1.0, 36–45 ×1.2, 46–60 ×1.5, above 60 ×2.0.
- Pre-existing conditions ×1.25. Smoker ×1.2.
Example: ₹5,00,000 cover at age 30, non-smoker with no pre-existing conditions: about ₹7,500 a year. The same cover at 40 for a smoker: about ₹10,800.
Actual premiums depend on the insurer, city, plan features, family members covered and medical tests. Get real quotes before buying.
